Providing scalable housing for Savannah’s homeless community became an even greater priority as a consequence of the COVID pandemic, and GMShay volunteered to help answer this challenge. At the request of City Manager Pat Monahan, we explored ways to create a village of repurposed shipping containers. This study included multiple types for different user profiles arranged into neighborhood clusters and surrounding a community facility with showers, laundry and a health and security office. Work is now underway to refit the community container and develop the prototypes for residences, in hopes of opening by the end of 2020.
